Child & Teen Therapy Groups
FPG offers group therapy and skills-based groups for children and adolescents based on current enrollment and clinician availability. Groups provide opportunities to practice skills, build confidence and connect with peers.
Skills for everyday life
Social skills, friendship and recognizing social cues
Emotional regulation, anger management and frustration tolerance
Conflict resolution, cooperation and communication
Self-esteem, empathy and expressing feelings
Peer pressure, school stress and family relationships
Groups use age-appropriate therapeutic activities, discussion and role-play to build awareness and give participants repeated practice using new skills.
Children’s groups may focus on initiating and sustaining friendships, recognizing social cues, empathy, cooperation and sharing, resolving conflict, expressing feelings, tolerating frustration, and overcoming shyness or social fears.
Teen groups may address fitting in and group affiliation, building and maintaining friendships, negotiating appropriately with parents, balancing school and friendships, self-esteem, motivation, identity, family relationships, and pressures involving drugs or defiance.
Groups are often structured as eight weekly sessions, depending on the program. Parents are typically involved through consultation or parent sessions so they can understand the skills being taught and help children and teens practice them at home.
